I want to ride it through some trais in my woods and maybe some small jumping, but my main worry ive done some research on the brakes and people say they are worthless? Thanks
This is an entry level bike. If you are planning on going seriously off road with this you might want to save some more money.
The frame is arguably the best part of the bike. Most frames are decent. Better brands have them built to higher standards.
This bike has entry level parts on it. They'll be fine for learning on smaller and smoother stuff. But serious off road riding will tear up the fork and drivetrain. I have no experience with Tektro disc brakes. But at least Tektro makes decent (not spectacular) rim brakes. I prefer Avid mechanical disc brakes over other brands because they work better.
This is more of a street, city, bike path bike than a true off road bike. For that purpose it should work ok. But a bike bought at a bike shop includes proper assembly and should include at least one free tune up. The shop is also there to help people when they have problems. So they might initially seem more expensive but in the end often save you money.
