Occasional clicking sound while riding bike?
Hi,
I've noticed that sometimes when I'm riding my bicycle, when I complete one rotation with my pedal (my right foot, my lead foot), I hear a little click each time I complete the rotation.
It has a 24-speed Shimano drivetrain with suspension fork. All of the deraiiluers and shifters, and cranksets are Shimano. It's not constant-it comes and goes. Usually when I'm up past 10mph.
I'm no bike expert at all, so i don't know much about gears. I usually ride with a two and a six and when I switch to gear five, sometimes, I'll hear the chain making sounds.
I hope somebody can help me out here. I'll take it for a tune up soon. I've never had a problem with the bike though so we'll see.
Thanks,
George
it might be a tight link in your chain. the click is when the chain goes through your derailluer. lift the rear wheel off the ground and pedal slowly. if you see a kink in the chain, that is the tight link. bending the chain side to side a few times then a good chain lube will usually loosen it up. if not you may need a new chain.
If you have recently replaced the chain, the rear gear set may need to be replaced also. this will cause a clicking.
it may be loose crankarms, but they will usually creak more than click, but it is a good idea to remove, clean both crank arm and spindle, grease the spindle, reinstall and tighten them.
another cause of clicking could be the bottom bracket bearings. but, it's probably something else. if you can't find it, tell the mechanic when you take it in for a tune up. if he is any good he can find it and fix it. if not, find a better mechanic.
hope this helps. good luck and good cycling.
