Is a cruiser bike or a mountain bike best for daily exercise?
I am not a professional cyclist. Myself and my neighbor are purchasing bikes just to ride around the neighborhood every evening for exercise. I like the style of a cruiser, and have always wanted one but am used to a more mountain bike type and like the idea of more than one speed and handle breaks. I found a cruiser at Walmart that has 7 speeds and handle breaks but I also found a nice Next mountain bike. My neighbor already has the Next kind and she loves it. What should I do? I'm torn between the two bikes.
Based on what you say you want to use it for, I think a hybrid is the best kind of bike for you. Hybrids look similar to mountain bikes (similar riding position), but have slightly skinnier tires, which means less rolling resistance on roads. They can be used for trails as well (depending on the model), but really are best for around town and fitness rides.
If you do plan to ride non-paved trails regularly, then the mountain bikes is probably right for you.
I see no real reason to go for the cruiser.
